Midge Pierce
A veteran cable and former broadcast programmer, Emmy-award-winning producer, journalist and educator, Midge Pierce is currently Vice President - Programming for WAM! America’s Kidz Network, a service of Starz Encore Group. A strong advocate for quality programming for young people, Midge has initiated multiple projects from the Children’s Charter on Quality Media, an industry call-to-action to provide nonviolent program alternatives for young people to You Gotta Have Arts, a comprehensive campaign returning art and music to the classroom, to Generation Hope: Voices for Change, a year-long anti-violence campaign that culminated in a partnership with the national PTA, Colorado State PTA and a national special called Generation Hope: Blueprint for Change. Recently, Blueprint won the highest award possible from the Parents’ Guide to Childrens’ Media (formerly Parents’ Choice). WAM! Original’s Caught in the Middle, and Safe Surfing were also cited. Plus, Blueprint for Change was nominated for an Emmy.
Midge is currently working on the development and delivery of Starters, a 10-episode series featuring a year in the life of an actual high school basketball team.
As a board member for the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences - Heartland Chapter, Midge serves a vital role in linking the cable, satellite and broadcast communities. Prior to her tenure in cable, Midge served as Program Manager for the Denver-based public television association Pacific Mountain Network where she commissioned a number of originals including Teen Court and Creating Critical Viewers.
Midge believes that by working together as an industry we can harness the power of television to guide, motivate and teach.
