Angus Fletcher

Angus Fletcher Angus Fletcher is President, Jim Henson Television, Europe. Based in London, Fletcher oversees all current and future television development, production and programming for the Company.

Fletcher is a writer, creator and producer and is responsible for some of television’s most prestigious pre-school TV programmes including BAFTA award winning Jim Henson’s The Hoobs, and BAFTA nominated Jim Henson’s Construction Site and Mopatop’s Shop.

As co-creator and executive producer of Jim Henson’s The Hoobs, Fletcher developed the programme into the UK’s largest single pre-school series with 250 x ½ hour episodes commissioned by Channel Four. Jim Henson’s The Hoobs premiered in the UK on 15 January 2001 and is broadcast seven days a week on Channel Four. From February 2001 it will be broadcast concurrently on Nickelodeon UK’s Nick Jr. To date the programme has been distributed in over 15 territories worldwide including Australia, Canada and France.

Fletcher most recently served as Executive Vice President and Co-Head of The Jim Henson Television Group Worldwide. He shared this role with his US counterpart Juliet Blake who is based in Los Angeles.

Fletcher first joined The Jim Henson Company as Director of International Development and Co-Production in 1992, before being promoted to Vice President two years later and to Senior Vice President, International Television in 1998. During this time, he oversaw all of the Company’s international television activity including development, production, distribution and co-production.

Other credits include the development and set up of Jim Henson’s The Secret Life of Toys (26 episodes, Disney Channel USA and BBC) as a German co-production and three seasons of Jim Henson’s Animal Show (65 episodes, BBC, Fox Kids). Fletcher was part of the team that developed Farscape, the acclaimed science-fiction drama on SCI FI, USA and BBC 2, now in its third season. He was also executive producer of the Bafta nominated pre-school series Mopatop’s Shop (ITV) and Jim Henson’s Construction Site (ITV), which is based upon his original idea.

Fletcher began his career in 1986 as an international executive with ITEL, moving to the position of Head of International Drama Development & Co-Production from 1988-1992. During his time with ITEL, Angus was involved in many productions on a creative and business level. These included The Josephine Baker Story (Anglia/HBO), which won five Emmys, A Broadway Christmas (ITV/Showtime), Frankie’s House (ITV, ABC Australia, A&E), Growing Rich (ITV, TVNZ); Framed (ITV); and Riders (ITV). In addition, two of Fletcher’s original treatments were developed to script at ITV: Dark Thoughts and Reflections of Alice.

Fletcher graduated from St. Andrew’s University with an M.A Arts in 1986. He sits on the Executive of the Edinburgh International Television Festival and was part of the group who formed and developed TVYP (Edinburgh’s educational youth festival run in tandem with Edinburgh International TV Festival). In this capacity he was the chair of the TVYP committee from 1993-98. He was also an active member of The Entertainment Industry Policy Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (UK) from 1995-1998. Fletcher has served on juries for both BAFTA and the RTS.

Whilst living in London, England, Fletcher designs and runs theatrical fireworks events throughout the country for anyone extravagant enough to pay!
