Jane Rinzler Buckingham

Jane Rinzler Buckingham At the age of 16, Jane Rinzler was already frustrated by the misperceptions about her generation. Her desire to better understand and to clarify led to the book, Teens Speak Out, A Report from Today's Teens on Their Most Intimate Thoughts, Feelings, and Hopes for the Future (Donald I. Fine, 1986.).

Now 33, and president of Youth Intelligence, Jane has been studying and interpreting America's youth for more than a decade, helping companies, educators and parents better understand 12-35 year olds.

Youth Intelligence is a marketing consulting firm that uses traditional and non-traditional, proprietary techniques to determine today's concerns and tomorrow's trends. The company then translates this knowledge to affect marketing, advertising, and strategies, as well as new product development for a wide range of companies including, MTV, Levis, Cosmopolitan, Nike, Polo, McDonalds, NBC, Microsoft, ESPN, AT&T, Calvin Klein, and others.

Youth Intelligence publishes the comprehensive youth trend survey, The Cassandra ReportÓ focusing on macro trends and what’s hot. In addition, Youth Intelligence is a partner in Student MonitorÓ, the only quantitative survey of college students.

Ms. Buckingham is a columnist for the New York Time Syndicate for which she writes a weekly column on trends called NeXt Gen. She is also a contributing editor for Cosmopolitan Magazine and the Trend Correspondent for the Style Network. In addition, she appears regularly on shows including "Good Morning America," "Oprah," and "20/20." She has been featured in The New York Times, Fortune and The Boston Globe. She has also written for magazines including Marie Claire, Mademoiselle, Brandweek, and McCall’s and has served as an advisor for the books Revolution X and Teens Shopping for a Better World.

Prior to starting Youth Intelligence, Jane was the Vice President, Director of Youth Marketing for Houston Herstek Favat, a national advertising agency with offices in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles, where she worked on accounts including The Massachusetts Anti Smoking Effort and Converse. She has held various management positions at BBDO and FCB/Leber Katz.

Jane is a graduate of Duke University with a B.A. in English.
